The Height of the Axilla Extension is Crucial for Brace Success

Patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis are at risk for curve progression and only bracing is effective in preventing it. About 80% of braces made for AIS require an axilla (underarm) extension.Average correction of thoracic curve in a good brace = 50%Average distance from thoracic apex to counteractive axilla force = 3.5 inchesTherefore average maximum lever […]

Early Detection of Progressive Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

New paper by Skalli W et.al. in Spine, 2006, looked at attempts to predict progression of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) in small curves between 10 and 20 degrees. Calibrated bi-planar X-rays were performed and 3D reconstructions of the spine, which allowed them to calculate six local parameters related to main curve deformity. They found that

LA 3D Brace

The new LA 3D Brace is a more advanced scoliosis brace that is low profile and significantly more likely to improve scoliosis and prevent surgery.  Studies show it to be 250% more effective than older “traditional” braces. The advance LA 3D Brace has achieved incredible results including permanent scoliosis correction. This x-ray is Katherine’s spine.

Kyphosis and Hypo-Kyphosis

Schroth is a combination of exercises used to halt scoliosis curve progression, eliminate pain, and improve posture. This in combination with our L.A. 3D Brace can be very beneficial but can not correct the spine in fully developed adults. The Schroth exercise consist of stretching, strengthening, and breathing techniques, which can be done at home

Probability of Needing Surgery After Being Told You Need a Brace.

After a scoliosis curve progresses to around 25 degrees, treatment is needed to prevent progression and a brace is usually the recommended treatment. However the probability of the brace being successful varies depending on many factors including:1) the pattern of scoliosis2) the size of the curves (lateral/Cobb angle)3) the size of the curve (rotation angle)4)
