Celebrities with Scoliosis

Supermodel Joan Smalls relies on her daily fitness regime to help soothe the pain of her scoliosis.
The Puerto Rican runway model has been suffering from scoliosis since she was a kid, but she has since found ways to deal with the ailment to prevent debilitating back aches. “I have scoliosis so I have to try and maintain a strong core because of my back,” she told Britain’s ES magazine. “It’s pretty severe and hurts when I sit or stand for long periods of time. I got it when I grew up really fast when I was 12.”
Star of the ‘Divergent’ movie series, Shailey Woodley, has scoliosis. She wore a brace at age 15 and it prevented the need for her to have surgery. She would wear her brace for around eighteen hours a day and took it off while shooting scenes.

Usain Bolt, Olympic Gold Medal Sprinter, also has scoliosis. He told ESPN, “My spine’s really curved bad. But if I keep my core and back strong, the scoliosis doesn’t really bother me. So I don’t have to worry about it as long as I work hard. The early part of my career, when we didn’t really know much about it, it really hampered me because I got injured every year.” With a strong back and strong core, Usain Bolt’s scoliosis doesn’t stop him from pursuing his dreams.
