Not All Scoliosis Orthotists Are Equal

Successful scoliosis brace treatment requires a combination of an effective bracing system and a skilled orthotist (brace specialist). The skill and experience of the orthotist in the process of scoliosis treatment is often understated. Will the orthotist correctly diagnose the curve pattern? Will he/she correctly fit the brace and provide appropriate instructions? Will the orthotist know how to adjust the brace if the correction is not ideal?
Lillian had a 28 degree curve and was fit with the LA 3D Brace at The LA Brace Center in Los Angeles. Her initial in-brace correction reduced her curve to 16 degrees. An okay correction of 43% but not perfect. Then after reviewing her in-brace x-ray, her orthotist Gez Bowman, adjusted the force applications in her brace for improved correction. These adjustments have reduced her in-brace curve to 0 degrees! As long as Lillian keeps wearing her brace her curve should be minimal after completion of her brace treatment.

Here’s another successful scoliosis brace treatment done by orthotist Gez Bowman. Valerie started with a 36-degree thoracic curve. In her LA 3D Brace her curve was reduced to 0 degrees and she wore it 22 hours/day. Her out of brace x-ray now shows minimal signs of scoliosis. With any other brace or treatment the best case scenario would be to hold the curve at 36 degrees. With the advanced LA 3D Brace we have been able to virtually eliminate her scoliosis.
