Therapy Time v Bracing Time

If I am doing a therapy treatment program daily, how many hours/day do I need to wear the LA brace to still get a positive result?
Unfortunately, in most cases, therapy does not replace the need for bracing. Remember scoliosis progresses every minute of every day. Hence, anytime you are not wearing the brace and/or not actively doing the correct curve specific exercises (or not doing them correctly) the curve is still progressing. Assuming you are doing your exercises (correctly) for 1 hour/day then that is 1 hour less of acceptable non-brace wear time. In reality there appears to be some “hang over” time from treatment, therefore 1 hour of exercise probably equates to 1.5 hours that you can afford to be out of your brace. Many studies have shown that results with bracing are proportional to both the amount of in-brace correction AND the numbers of hours worn each day. The more the brace is worn the more effective it is. Recent studies suggest that 21.5 hours per day achieves a result comparable to 24 hours and should therefore be the goal. Anything less than 21.5 hours/day will result in a reduced effect.
